importing DVD

hi, i recently captured, editing and burned a movie. it came out fine and i deleted it off the computer. however i now want to re-edit part of it but i'm having trouble locating the audio file. just as with any DVD when you open the disc there's three parts in video_ts. i'm not sure what they are off the top of my head, i think they are bup, ifo and another one. the last part has files that you can open in movie studio. they contain the video but no audio. the other files can't be open in ms. the audio_ts folder is empty. so my question really is does anyone know how to edit a DVD (video and audio)?

The audio and video are multiplexed together in the VOB files; most likely you'll need to demux the VOB into seperate files/streams using something like DVD2AVI

>the audio_ts folder is empty

That's only used for audio DVDs - you haven't lost anything.

i rendered the DVD as mpeg2. is it possible to convert it back to mpeg2 with separate video/audio streams?

DVD2AVI, VOBEdit - there are other tools.

To get what you're looking for you can copy the .vob file to your computer (if there's more than one in the folder you may have to try one at a time, or do all of them) and turn the ".vob" into ".mpg"; you can then open the mpg into VMS and drop it on the timeline and you'll have the video and audio again. Works for me.

How do I convert the .vob to .mpg? Is it done with the programs ScottW mentioned? If so, which of the two are better? Thanks!

You just right click file (after it's on your computer ) and rename.....
So .vob is changed to.mpg easy !

millsy5, you do not need to convert .VOB files to .MPG files VMS will import .VOB files. I am re-editing a project using .VOB files. What you have to do is : insert the previously burned DVD into the drive , copy the .VOB files to your HDD,( If your DVD has several pages .VOB files will be numbered like this: VTS_01_1 , VTS_01_2 and so on.) Then open VMS and import'em all files you want to re-edit. Another thing in the import dialog box make sure to select "All Files" otherwise .VOB files will not show up. Wish this helps. Happy re-editing
