Importing DVD Files Made On Stand Alone DVD Recorder

Hi!

I have a lot of personal 3/4" U-matic video that I have transferred to DVD's to preserve all my video. I have two one hour files on each DVD, and would like to simply import those two programs into DVD Architect in order to make a menu structure for a final DVD. (The menus on the stand alone DVD recorder, a Pioneer, are too simplistic for my taste).

There would be no editing involved. Can I simply rename the files with a mp2 extension and import them into DVD Architect and proceed to make my new DVD's? I'm not sure if the stand alone recorder is recording the audio in AC-3 format or not.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks!

DVDA does not always handle VOB files very well. It is best to demux the VOBs into one video and one (or more) audio streams and import into DVDA. You can use the demux tools in TMPGEnc, or other similar tools. This is an extra step, but it doesn't harm quality in any way because DVDA should not re-encode either the audio or video, as long as you set the DVDA project properties to match the video and audio in your original VOB files.

John,

Thanks for the quick reply. I know this subject has been beat to death! <g>

I guess I could use something like MPEG VCR to demux the files as well?

If you have MPEGVCR, then definitely use it. I don't normally mention it because it costs a lot of money for the small number of things it does. However, it is a good product.
