Importing DVD Video + Audio

I just bought the Sony Vegas Movie Stuido 4.0 do do editing and creating in-house DVD's on my Compaq.

Most of our content is in DVD format. Sony Vegas Movie Stuido 4.0 imported the video from a DVD's VOB file with with great results, but no sound came across.

Do I need to RIP the DVD first to a format like AVI before I can edit it with both Video and Audio tracks, or am I doing something wrong in the Vegas program? I would like to keep the 704 x 480 size. If I do need to buy a ripping program, any recommendtations?

That's because the audio is AC3; Vegas does not have an AC3 decoder, only an AC3 encoder.

DVD2AVI will l et you extract the AC3 audio as a WAV file; it will also let you extract the video as an AVI and if you use a DV codec it will be a lot easier to edit with than the MPEG-2 contained in the VOB.
