Importing files with the word "TITLE" in the name crashes Vegas 5?!

GmElliott wrote on 7/27/2004, 5:11 PM
Just read this in another forum- apparently importing some media with the letters "TITLE" (all uppercase) causes Vegas to change the file type and/or crashes. For example if you have an image, "dog.jpg"....simply rename it to "TITLE.jpg" and try to import it into Vegas.

Bizzare............but true. Try it yourself. Sony?

It doesn't crash my system. Instead I get an error message that says
"Warning: An error occured while opening the EDL file TITLE.jpg.
The file is most likely corrupted or of an unknown format."

This was discussed here 2 days ago in the "My image files are being treated as CMX3600 EDLS!" " thread. It does appear to be a very strange quirk/bug.

Tried it in 4.0. Double clicking on the TITLE.jpg file in explorer does give an error, however, if I left click on it and drag it to the timeline it's fine.
Do you also get that?

If "title.jpg" is lowercase no problem.

In Uppercase the preview is correct but the import in time line or Trimmer fail.

"Warning:An error ocurred while importing the EDL file TITLE.jpg"

Plz Sony check this. Is ridiculous.

Sorry for the english. Erni.

MySt interesting .. I recently did some extensive TITLE.png tests. Vegas4d didn't produce the error you say. It loaded and played in the t/l.

BUT Vegas5b, very different story. It froze the screen and eventually crashed out V5b. And yes all the upper case stuff too.

The question here is/are there any "other" titles/names we can't use? That are Protected: Not a clever position to be in Sony.

I remember once giving a "protected" title to a database field in a cut down version of Rbase - a derivative of dbase - it almost smashed outta the screen at me! - It screwed up a relational database I had design. Anything on this scale? If it thinks TITLE is a valuable name and it is thinking "EDL" a type of database .. well stranger things have happened at sea - yes/no?

Sony please advise,

Wow this one is weirder than the undo-crash-bug when you have 231+ chars in a marker name. Make sure you send an email to support. I did and they said they forwarded my bug report to the engineers.

Grazie, did you try TITLE.jpg? Like I said, if I drag and drop from the explorer to the timeline, it's fine. Doubleclicking in explorer to add it to the timeline gives the error mentioned. "Unable to parse line #5" (followed by some wierd characters) is specified in the DETAILS in the error pop-up.

For me, Vegas 4.0e has no problems at all. Import works, double click works, drag to TL works, open in trimmer works.

Vegas 5.0b - cannot import media, cannot drag from explorer to media bin, cannot add by double click, cannot drag to TL, cannot open in trimmer. In short, nothing works except playing/previewing the file.

If I change to lower case, can do all above but changing name while in media bin to uppercase, shows all previous problems.

Bizarre ..

I've reproduced that here and have added it to our bug database. Yes, that's definitely a very weird bug.

While your at it- see if you can't fix the "alien" frame (or "flash frame") bug. Another project has recently fell victim to it's grasp! lol

I'm so paranoid- I only do rendering after a cold boot and fresly loaded Vegas 5 (opened but no work done on the timeline).

Thanks!

Thanks Sony for listening

I hope other companies take their example ;)

Found out that not only having the word TITLE in the file name causes the problem but having the dreaded word in a folder name does the same!

epirb - THANK you very much! You may, just may have closed the door on a pending issue - A piece of media I somehow got into Vegas with a TITLE thing within it . . . It locked the Project up .. hmmmm . . I'm going to ponder on this for a wee bit longer .. but thank you ..

Stellas are on me Grazie!
I just got WildFx PRO and it was working great until I created the TITLE monsta! spent all morning trying to figure it out.
Come to think of it we better not type the "T" word in the forum.
Maybe it's why we dont see peoples info anymore! : )

I have been getting the same error message when I select a frame on the Timeline and click on "Save Snapshot to File". I use the same name that Vegas automatically gives it which is "Image 6.jpg". I have tried saving it with all lower case (image 6.jpg), and also tried saving it as a .png, both with the same result.

Another filename that has problems is Clip.bmp and some variations thereof. Clip.jpg seems fine though.

This would seem to equate to some dodgy code in there somewhere!

This was not in the bug database before?

I heard about this on the forums probably six months ago.

I think I remember someone from Sony confirming it.

Sorry - I don't get it . . works for me G

Oops, my mistake, "Clip.bmp" isn't recognised by DVDA2, in Vegas it's OK.

I'll post it in the DVDA2 forum.
