Importing from DVD

A friend recorded a one hour live presentation using a set top DVD recorder.
I attempted to import the presentation from DVD into Vegas Pro 8.0b and wound up with 6 approx 350MB mpeg files. When I butt the files together on the timeline, there are skips in the audio (and video) as we move from clip to clip. The skips are not there when we play the DVD.

I tried a Roxio utility and a utility from AVS4YOU and they each rip the DVD as one file. Much better. But I'd much prefer to do all of this in Vegas!

Any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks,
Brian

when the dvd set to rec ,devided by chapters, you have this kind of "skips" in the audio/video.

here is a thread how to solve that .

I don't know about your set-top recorder, but I can pop the recorded disc in my computer, copy the VR_MOVIE.VRO file to my desktop, rename the extension to .mpg, and put it right on the Vegas timeline. No need to use the import feature.

Brian:

Depending on how accurate you want the sync on this project, you usually notice the audio is just a little shorter than the video in each VOB.

If you truncate the video to the audio, and then butt them together, it works okay.

mvcap - I'll follow that thread.

musicvid - good tip. I'll try your renaming trick

Jeff9329 - even truncating the clips before butting them together still results in missing audio. I haven't seen the recorder yet. That happens this afternoon. Not sure what I'll learn but I think it's worth a look.

Thanks everyone
