Importing Media - 5th file hangs as TN renders

This has just started and I am at a loss to figure it out. I have tried to vary project properties. Switching file types and characteristics. Seems to be related to rendering overhead (RAM maybe) . I can no longer import a bunch of files into a new project. Get the message "not responding" and VP app freezes. Tried to reassign prerender folder to external drive. My pc's stats look okay. More than 500GB of clear headroom and 8MB Ram always was plenty. Ideas? 5 files is a joke eh?

You haven't provided any details about your source files, or your system.
Could be, you just need to be patient with your computer.

Well I have left the machine to crank and it stays "not responding" for half an hour as it tries to import and render the thumbnail of the fifth file. Files I am importing are an mp4 (10MB range) and various jpg's. These I am saving for web out of PS at 1920 x 1080 and are in the 300k range. No I see some bigger at less than 3MB which seems like it shouldn't be a problem either. I tried to disable my antivirus thinking it was seeing activity with jpgs and stopping it. Then I toggled the project settings to check adjust source files on import. Still no change. It does not matter which files or order I import them in. The fifth one hangs. Seems like it is either, the pc memory is jammed, the project settings are not copecetic, or the imported file properties are corrupted. Ideas?

My computer with VP 12 on it. Intel i7 CPU M640 @2.8GHz, Dell laptop with 1TB internal and 500GB clear, external 1TB with 200GB available. 8GB Ram (filled). Windows 7 64 bit.

Remove the fifth file from the import and see if it loads.

Doesn't matter what file it is. And when VP freezes in a not-responding condition I have to close instance and reopen VP. When import is trying, the thumbnail is seen in Media box trying to render. And windows spinning circle tells me the machine is working in stuck position. First four files come in fine. MP4 and 3 jpgs. Like there is a RAM ceiling or something. Should I do SVP support ticket for $30? Or find someone else who will sniff out whether the laptop is laboring for some unknown reason.
