Importing .MOV results in no sound included

Hello,

I just purchased Movie Studio Platinum Edition. I am trying to import .MOV files into the editor that my video camera produces but everytime I do the audio track is empty.

How do I import the files my video camera produces with the audio included?

I found a couple work arounds which entail either converting the video into another format or exporting the audio into .wav and importing the audio seperately. I find it weird that I would have to do this.

I have both Vista Premium with SP1 which is on my laptop
also XP Pro SP2 which is on my desktop computer. Both system have this same issue, no audio is imported with the video.

How can I get the audio to import without having to jump through hoops using something else to convert the video to another format? The box says that it works with Quicktime files, but it didn't say the audio wouldn't be included with that format. LOL

Please Help if you can, thank you.

Record a 3 second movie with your camera (not more than that please), upload it somewhere, and send us the URL so we can look up its format. Thx. There's just a good chance that VMS does not support that particular format, but I can test it out in PRO for you.

Hi,

I did some searching and found a solution.

The format that is used for the .MOV file is H.264 Mpeg-4.

Until or if a update is made to either the codecs or Sony Movie Studio, all you have to do is rename the extension to .MP4

Once you do that the file is easily loaded into the software with audio working fully.
I am glad that there was an easy solution to this, importing issue.

This is a note for others reading this thread.

I had to reinstall the software due to several issues that came up in my installed version. Once I reinstalled all the issues I was having was resolved.

The link above is to another thread where Eugenia helped me to convert the file format using a different codec, it is great information.

Once I reinstalled the Vegas software I was able to fully edit and render the output into WMV format and it worked great. Just change the .mov extension to .mp4 OR use the instructions in the other thread I linked to above to convert to another format which will work great with Vegas as well.

Thanks.
