Importing MPEG files crashes VV3

doboyd wrote on 11/23/2001, 6:15 AM
I,ve just bought the full version and registered etc. I did not uninstall VF2a. No problems until I tried to open a MPEG file in the media pool. It brings up an error message (an exception has occured V30k.dll etc) and has to close. The MPEG file was created in VF2a. I even ceated an MPEG 2 file in VV3, an when trying to open in media pool, it does the same thing. I tried uninstalling VF2a, and reinstalling VV3. I treid uninstalling VV3 and reinstalling, re-registering etc. Still the same. I'm using Win XP. Please help!

When you rendered an MPEG 2 in VV3, did you use the MainConcept plug-in? If not, try using the MainConcept MPEG-2 plug-in and see if that helps.

I did use the main concept MPEG 2 plug in under the render command. I went back into VV3 and from the explorer tab I can drag MPEG clips onto the timeline and edit etc. As soon as I go to the media pool window, the exception message pops up an it shuts down.

Should I do a clean install of Windows XP again and load only VV3?? I would really like this to work as it seems like such a good application. Has any body else had trouble with VV3 installed with VF2a?? Could that have interfered with VV3, and even though I have uninstalled VF2a, and run Nortons Win Doctor to clean up the registry, there are still conflicts??

Thanks for any help.

Does this happen with other file types or is it only MPEG? For example, what happens when you open an AVI and try to view it in the media pool?

Are you able to play the MPEG video on the timeline before you click on the Media Pool?

Also, if you first go to the media pool and change the view to "Detailed", (the last toolbar button in the media pool) and then add an MPEG does it still crash.

I am running XP as well, and installed VV3 fresh (no prior installations of VF or VV). Importing MPEGs will sometimes crash VV. I do not know the specifics about these files as I did not create them.

I have not been able to register the Ligos plugin, so many files I cannot bring in at all. I was able to register the MainConcept plugin with no issues.

Any other file is OK. I tried opening an MPEG in media pool, using the detailed view, OK. It plays etc, so no problems as far as I can tell. I changed the view to list, still OK. It only crashes when a thumbnail view is selected, even with a rendered DV file that I brought into VV3 and rendered as a main concept MPEG 2. I don't recall seeing any other MPEG plugin under the options in render as, but uninstalling VF2 leaves the MPEG (Ligos) plugin behind(??). Using explorer I ccan drag a MPEG file to the timeline etc, so I don;t know why it doesn't like any MPEG thumbnail view. Under media pool detailed view I can preview the file OK. Any other suggestions, is this a bug, should I still try a clean rebuild and install?? Another response says that he did a clean install and still has intermittant problems

Thanks.

We have found the problem and reinstalling won't help. To avoid crashes, please use the list or detail view. This problem will be addressed in a future update. Thanks for helping us track this one down.
