Trying to import mpg file into Vegas Movie studio 4.0 and unable to get the sound working. I am able to play these files in Windows Media Viewer and have video and audio but when I try to import I only get video (NO AUDIO). What is wrong. I am trying to edit my movie but cannot because there is no audio. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Thanks in advance.

First question: Do you notice Movie Studio trying to build an "audio proxy" when you place the file on the timeline? Look in the lower left of the Movie Studio window. Do you get any kind of error message when you place the file on the timeline, or when it finishes trying to build the proxy?

Second question: Where did the MPG file come from? A capture program of some sort?

One suggestion if you're impatient trying to diagnose the problem: Use a free program like VirtualDub to see if you can convert it to an AVI file that has audio and can be used in Movie Studio. VirtualDub is a very simple install, and from there you should just be able to do File -> Open Video File, then do a File -> Save as AVI.
