Yes, you can, although IPB-style MPEG-2 is not an ideal timeline format due to the extra work necessary to grab random frames (it has to build forward from the last I-frame). You'll need to register the MPEG-2 plug-in to use it, just bring in a clip and it will prompt you.

its all very exciting to be able to import mpg2 files into vv3 but when you go to export them down you will find that you get black dropouts of about a second duration in the video. When we bring this to SoFos attention here they instantly seem to change their story from the "sure you can!!" above to "um..you should be using avis only". If you are planning on buying VV3 to colleate mpeg2 files i strongly advise against it as it has this serious flaw that has not been addressed. And here is the evidence ppl...read this...
