Importing MTS files into Vegas 6.0

Hi there:

I just bought a new camera, HD AVCHD Handycam but the files that I take off of it are in MTS format which apparently isn't compatible with Sony Vegas 6.0. I understand that I am a couple versions behind but is there plugIn that I can get for Sony Vegas or what can I do?

So...is there a way to do it in Vegas 6.0?

Thanks and have a great day,

Adam Scott

I've found AVCHD files work fine in Vegas 8 Pro, download the 30-day trial and see how it works for you.

I'm quite sure there's nothing that will allow them to work in Vegas 6, they hardly work in Vegas 7 for that matter (from my experience).

Which camera did you buy? Mine is a Sony HDR-CX12.

Hey, thanks for the info...I guess when I get enough money I will upgrade to the latest version.

I have an HDR CX7 Flash Drive and love it. I think the only problem is that there is no eyepiece :(

I hope sony comes out with a Flash Drive product that will have an eyepiece because nothing in the sony store or online had one like that. The eyepieces were there in the Hard Drives...why not put in the flash drives...lol

You might try AVCHD Upshift - an inexpensive AVCHD conversion tool which is available at VASST.com.

I have Xilisoft HD Video Converter but unfortunately when I convert it to *.avi I can only get the sound to work in vegas. Do I need some kind of plugin?

Which codec is used in the AVIs created by the Xillisoft converter?

How do I find that out?

I just recently installed DivX....is that what you mean?

If the Xillisoft converter uses a codec for encoding which is not available for Vegas for decoding you'd need to install that certain codec in a way Vegas can access it. I don't know which codec Xillisoft uses. Maybe there's a way to check Xillisoft's render preferences. Or use a tool like GSpot to analyse which codec is in the files.

So I just found the advanced prefs and the video codec is mpeg4 and the audio codec is mpeg4aac.

does vegas not have this codec?

Not sure but I doubt Vegas 6 already had it. Vegas Pro 8 does.

Maybe there's a way to switch to another render codec in the converter like WMV oder MPEG-2.
