"Importing MXF?" Not that I'm aware of... and sadly, Vegas does not support OMF either.. VP can import AAF, but in my experience, that just plain won't work, importing from other apps. So your basically you're SOL without a third party OMF converter.
jbolley wrote on 2/2/2012, 9:16 AM
I've loaded MXF files into Vegas. We don't do anything with mutichannel on the MXF so I can't tell you what happens with 16 tracks. 4 come in no problem and are selectable like the left/right/swap channel select that exists in a stereo clip.

Thanks,
I have no problems importing .mxf into Vegas pro, but only 8 audio tracks show up.
Was wondering if it supported more than 8.
rraud wrote on 2/2/2012, 10:04 AM
Thanks for the heads up, I'll have to look into this.
musicvid10 wrote on 2/2/2012, 10:05 PM
Just post your MediaInfo properties and all will become clear.
MXF is a wrapper, and can hold a variety of video and audio codecs.
Stuart_BellMedia wrote on 2/3/2012, 8:19 AM
If I import an mxf with 4 audio tracks, only 4 tracks show on the timeline, as expected. An mxf with 12 audio tracks only shows 8, and media properties reports 8 tracks only.
I assume from this that Vegas is not capable of importing more than 8 audio tracks.
The mxf files I'm importing were created on a GVG k2 server.
musicvid10 wrote on 2/3/2012, 9:21 AM
Stuart,
MediaInfo is freeware, download from Sourceforge.
I don't know that there is a limitation to the number of audio tracks, but finding out what they are is a first step. Also uploading a short clip somewhere would give others the chance to try it on their own systems.

MXF is a container. Telling us where it came from says nothing about its contents!
Thanks.

Your audio is one channel.
If they are being imported and mapped as 8 stereo channels, everything is correct.

Other things to check:
Import method (e.g., Device Explorer)?
MXF multichannel enabled in Prefs?
Tried it in the Vegas 11 trial version?

Stuart_BellMedia wrote on 2/3/2012, 10:36 AM
There are 16 audio tracks, only 8 show up in Vegas.
I only posted information about the first one, because the remaining 15 contain the same information (other then track ID)

I have used "import", "open" and "Explorer" to open the file.
Tried it with multichannel enabled and disabled.
Vegas 11, under windows 7 crashes when any mxf is selected. This happens in Vegas 10 as well, but not when running on WinXP.

You did not say if the tracks appear on the timeline as mono or stereo. If there are 8 stereo tracks, everything is correct. Are you importing into a stereo or multichannel audio project?

Device Explorer in Vegas is NOT "Explorer." It is a completely separate function for XDCAM import. That's all the help I'm able to provide, but I'm sure others can help you further. Best of luck.
Stuart_BellMedia wrote on 2/3/2012, 11:16 AM
The first 8 audio tracks in the mxf appear on the timeline as 8 mono tracks.
I am importing into a multichannel audio project.

As far as I know, Device Explorer is used to browse exernal media storage devices, such as a Sony PDW-U1 drive. I used the "Explorer" tab (next to the "Project Media" tab) to browse to the folder containing my mxf files. I am not using an XDCAM disk.

Thank you for your time.

Sorry I have no idea what a GVG k2 server is. It sounded like an external device.
Maybe someone has some direct experience with this.

Stuart_BellMedia, please upload your file to any file sharing service, such as min.us or MediaFire (no registration needed, I personally recommend DropBox, but it requires registration) and give us the link.

Thank you.

Unfortunately, my Vegas (10 and 11) crashes every time I import your file :(

Are you running under Windows 7?
I've found the same thing, but rock solid on Windows XP.

VegasPro10e / WinXPpro here;

Whatever I do, the file you uploaded only opens with 1 video and just 2 audio channels. No crashes, just not enough audio!

Vegas shows the properties as:
General

Stuart, how did you get more than 2 channels to show up?

Stuart_BellMedia wrote on 2/7/2012, 4:30 PM
Thanks again,
Only tracks 1 , 2, 9, 10 have audio on them, the rest are silent.
Apparently, vegas does not recognise more then 8 tracks.
John Lundsten wrote on 2/8/2012, 10:31 AM
AATranslator can read that 16 tr MXF.

I imported the MXF into Vegas10, saved as EDL.
Converted that to Reaper RPP using AATranslator. AAT made / extracted 16 mono Wav Files & a mpg of the video.

The opened Reaper session has stereo audio on Tr's 1&2, 7&8, 9&10, and 13&14. And the rest blank.
Is this definitely incorrect? To be honest this is the 1st MXF with more than 8 chan I've seen.

crashes V9 and V11 on Win7 here. I added just added 5 other MXF files with no problem, then clicked on the one shared earlier in this thread. Instant crash. Never got to the timeline.

BTW I have had no crash problem with XP SP3 and Vegas 10.0e.

Vegas did only see 8 trcks however.
