Importing PNG images?

formingus wrote on 11/16/2021, 3:27 AM

After importing PNG images is there an option to remove background? I am using chromakey and pick the color but some small quadrant is visible any better option? Thanks

@formingus - Hi! - How did you go about preparing those PNGs?

Though much more fiddly, I use Corel PaintShop Pro to erase unwanted backgrounds leaving 0% opacity (grey and white checkerboard) and then in Vegas Pro, set the event's Properties/Media/Alpha Channel settings so that the 0% opacity area of the image disappears - sort of like chromakey but its just a different method.

IrfanView can make/convert to transparent png's.

@Dexcon - Yeah, and now that PSP has a mass of clever Selection options, this makes for a more accurate and FUN time - after all, it is ALL about the FUN!

Hence my invitation to @formingus to tell us how the PNGs were created.

@FayFen - IrfanView - Wow! Now that's a name from the past . . . So I could make a Chroma/Luminance selection in IrfanView?

Absolutely. For me, its fun as well as sometimes challenging to get the best results (I try to convince myself that the challenging bits regenerate brain cells). The Background Eraser tool is very useful though a little more problematic the closer the background is to the wanted image.
