Importing projects from one version to another

I am working on a project in Movie Studio 12 Platinum, the software was becoming unstable so I upgraded to Movie Studio 17 Platinum. How can I import a project in progress from v12 to v17? I have tried importing from the v12 folder already but v17 doesn't seem to recognize the files.

What kind of file (extension) do you try to import???
I never save my projects (.vf) to such a folder but always on a data location and not a program files location.

@John-Browning When you say "I have tried importing", how are you trying to import the project file? Do you mean by selecting Project/Open? Or are you trying to drag and drop it?

@j-v and Jack S, Thank you both. It turns out it was a file directory issue. Jack I had tried both methods, I was just looking in the wrong place for the file. Much appreciated though.
