Importing .TIF still images into Vegas 4

I am new to this and I've been experimenting with inserting *.TIF still images into video tracks. I have so far been unsuccessful. I cannot even preview the *.TIF files. I get a message to the effect that "the file format plugin was not properly initialized".

What am I missing here?

Do you have Quick Time installed?

Make sure to include the authoring components for QT.

Thanks. I had QT Pro, but I didn't know about the authoring tools.
