Importing timelines from other projects

Mirv wrote on 11/22/2009, 5:00 PM
I've got 2 unique "projects" each with their own timelines and markers with labeling in the markers. I want to combine them into one. Is this possible? I'd hate to have to go back to the original raw video and have to import it into one of the two projects and re-edit it from scratch. Any ideas???

Thanks!
Mike

Drop the two projects into a 3rd project as nested projects. They will behave just like any other media. You can even use the Promote Media Markers script to extract the markers out of the two projects into your new master project.

Nested can be very cool, but be careful. In the past, I often applied fx to Project Media, but (at least with V8), fx applied to project media doesn't carry forward in nested projects. Oftentimes now, instead of nesting, I just Edit, Select All, Copy. Then paste everything into a veg with combined projects. I know it's not as efficient as nested but then I know EVERYTHING is exactly the same as in the original timeline.

Be advised that copy/paste will not copy over everything that's in your original project.
For example, Track Motion keyframes will NOT be copied over using this method.

Yes, in general anything declared in the track headers won't be copied. This includes Track Motion, as well as track volume, pan, compositing, parent/child relationships, etc.
