Importing video footage

Hello everyone,
since the my last post ( Need Help Capturing Video ) I've been on phone support with the manufacturer of my card slot adapter twice, ended up returning that card and getting a different one.
This time, my OS recognizes my card but , in Video Capture it says/ NO DEVICE CONNECTED.
When I click on video it says in the drop down/ connect device.
I'm just not getting it. I really need help.
Thanks again,
Jim.

Are you sure you are in PLAY mode? And you are using firewire instead of usb?

Also, have you tried from the device list to PICK which device you want, if there are any listed?

Hi, thank you for the reply.
When you say play mode / you mean my camera correct ?
Yes, my camera is in play mode. And yes, I am using firewire.
Device list / is this in my computers control panel ? If yes, I have done so. In the Capture Video Window, it says Please Connect a Device in the blue screen. When I click on the tool bar (Video) it shows a black dot & says No Capture Device. When I click on options it says Please reconnect to current device.
I'm new at this and feeling really lost, it seems there's got to be a simple sullution.
Thanks again,
Jim.

All I can tell you is how I do it. I have an old Sony 8mm camcorder, I bought the Haupaige TV device which is really meant to turn your PC into a TV. It uses a dongle that attaches to your USB port, and provides an antenna that plugs into your dongle, such that the dongle captures signals and provide them to the Haupaige application which tunes to the channel and plays the signal. The antenna connects via a typical co-ax cable connection. So I play my camcorder througn a coax to the dongle, it doesn't car what the source of the signal is. It picks it up on channel 3. The haupaige application allows me to record what I'm playing to mpg files. I think I payed about $80 for haupaige.

I get this sometimes (using Vista). You might need to switch the camera off then on again or maybe even close and re-open Vegas.

First of all I would like to thank everyone for all the great support.
Last week I spent a lot of time over at Micro Center with the tech. support person. He had me bring in my camera, Bus Card Adapter, firewire and my Sony software. He got the video capture to work no problem. OK at least I know all the above is working properly. So, that left us with trouble shooting my laptop. I went home and got my laptop, he tried it, no go. He sent me to get a different Card bus adapter, still no go.
Turns out the chip set for my card slot inside my laptop is some how missing. That leaves me two options / 1 - Backing up all the files on my whole computer & doing a restore on my system or just getting a new computer. I knew this day would come sooner or later.
My laptop is coming up on being 4 yrs. old, so I'm going to get a new OS dedicated to audio & video production and keep my laptop for just the home computer.
This has been quite a ride, but at least I found out the how & why of it, hopefully this will help someone else in the future.
Thanks again everyone.
Jim.
