In Car Footage - adding Dot moving on track layout

Hi there, I have VMS 10 Production and need your help. I have lots of in-car footage from my track car and already I've figured out how to add a transparent pic/layer of the racetrack to my clips but can't figure out how to add a dot/blob representing the car moving along the racetrack layer without out it being very labour intensive

What I've got at the moment is 2 identical racetrack layers (Yellow on bottom & Red on top) laid on top of each other so it looks like 1 red layer only. Then using the pan/crop on the top Red layer I zoom into red track until only a small blob is visable and use key-frames to pan the shot along the racetrack layout.

Now whilst this works it's very time consuming, is there an easier/better way of achieving this or am I at the limit of VMS 10's capabilities?

Many Thanks.....................................................IanH

You mean like the blobs that follow nascar drivers around? Those are done with realtime telemetry.

To do that in post, you would need objectified motion tracking, which is not a feature of any version of Vegas software.

To make your keyframing easier, start with six main points on each lap. Then start adding points in between until it looks smooth and is sticking to the moving object. Yes, it takes a lot of time.
