incomplete render

Hi. I wonder if anyone can enlighten me.
I had a 40 minute (3 day event) HD video ( I was very pleased with it) but my wife always wanted to show friends the last day 15 minutes.
So I broke the video in to 3 individual days I then tidied up the editing and re-named and re rendered 2 of them. They took hours to render (Less than the original) and finished with no errors and with a file in my finished folder.
When I view them with media player or media centre I do not get the complete video with the end credits etc. they seem to just stop I can find no explanation no error report1.

Any thoughts.

Stewart

PS Also why can't I speed up the video under either media player or media centre?

I suspect that you may have had a loop region selection on the timeline (yellow triangles on top with a blue highlight between them). Vegas has an option on the rendering dialog screen to 'render loop region' only. If this is checked then only the range between the yellow triangles will be rendered.

Thank you for your input.

I suspected that after the first file was rendered so I made sure by deleting all regions & markers, but the second file still did not complete.

Also the begining was from the start of the edited file but the rendered file ended short of the actual end of the edited file. I don't use loop regions yet Ishould do but still only a learner.

Are there any other Standard things I should do before a complete render.

I tend to
Post edit ripple,
check & delete any markers & loop regions
check my disc space,
then the output format,
then render.

Thanks again

I may have an answer.

I Switched off my Norton security centre completely.
I disconected the ADSL link.

I re ran the Render to 1080i
It took over 9 hours on my Pentium but it completed and the end of thefile was ok.
So couid it be NORTON? or WINDOWS UPDATE?
I will try on of theother files tonight.

Norton is evil. I suggest you do whatever it takes to completely eradicate it from your system, even if that means formatting the drive and reinstalling Windows from scratch. I've never seen any other software kill a computer as badly as Norton/Symantec does. It's worse than most viruses.

If you follow this advice, don't connect your computer to a network or insert any removable media into it.

There are other antivirus/antispyware software vendors. Almost all of them are far better choices. I use Grisoft AVG with no difficulties at all.

Another thing would be to exclude your video folders, including working folders, from virus scanning.

This way, the files will not be interfered with during the render.

I use the same too, it's free, and it has minimal to none problems.

Thanks for all the tips.

I am afraid I do not like Norton 'But it works' I would prefer to have more control & less of it doing its own thing. I use AVG on my media PC but I am not certain it has the depth and coverage of Norton.

Anyway back to the original problem of incomplete render. I have now done 3 'long renders' 8 hours + all have worked and all had Norton dissabled and internet disconected.

So that is what I shall do from now on.

I suspect part of theproblem is the duration, other things happen in their own timescale and there must be a clash.

Many thanks

Please see my next request for help 'Net render'

I think this means you're discovering that Norton in fact doesn't work.
