inconsistent frame loss reports

G'day,

Has anyone experienced inconsistent reports on frame loss?

I am capturing video from an analog camera via the Canopus ADVC-100 converter. During the capture, the frame loss counter stays at zero. However, when the capture is halted, the box that pops up indicates significant frame losses (e.g., up to 550, usually in the 300s).

Has anyone experienced this inconsistent reporting? Which one should I believe?

In order to reduce frame loss, I have a separate video drive, 7200 rpm hard disks, 500m of RAM, a 1.8g processor, an almost-isolated IRQ for the firewire card and so on. Theoretically, this should reduce the likelihood of frame losses, but I'm completely confused by one report saying there isn't any frame loss and the other report indicating huge numbers.

Any feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Doug

It's a false report, you haven't dropped any frames. I have the same problem with the Dazzle DV Bridge.

On querying this forum in December about it I was told that it was a known bug that should be fixed in the forthcoming patch.

I experienced a similar problem. The clue I had was that the recorded
time was incorrect. I captured a 2 minute video (using a stopwatch) and
the capture program indicated 3 minutes +. If I multiplied the extra
time by the expected frame count (30 fps) that gave me the reported frame loss
in the thousands.
I was also told there would be a fix for this.

Thanks very much for the information.

We spent about 15 hours this weekend swapping around IRQs and getting nowhere. I'm pleased to hear that it's simply a reporting bug and the product works fine.
