Incorrect display from DVDA menu structure

Birk Binnard wrote on 8/13/2014, 8:29 PM
My project has one main menu and 3 sub-menus. Each of the sub-menus was created using the Insert Scene Selection Menu function.

When I use the DVDA Preview function everything works A-OK. But when I make an ISO file and load the file into DVDFab Media Player 2 I get totally incorrect results when I click on one of the main menu's link to a sub menu. Only one sub-menu has this problem; the other work fine.

What happens is the screen display does not change (the full main menu stays on the screen) but the link highlights (underlines) from the sub-menu are displayed - on top of the main menu background image and it's link buttons..

Only the sub-menu's highlights are displayed, and they actually work. The sub-menu background image does NOT display, nor do any of the sub-menu's link images show up. Only the underline highlights are shown

Since everything else works A-OK using DVDFab I don't think it's a problem with DVDFab or the ISO file. I am reluctant to trash a good BluRay disk by burning this ISO onto a disk and trying it in a real player.

Other info: The DVDA Project is a nearly full BluRay disk (1920x1080) with all input coming from 11 Vegas Movie Studio13 renders. Most of the link buttons are JPG still images. DVDA says the disk is 24.4GB and there are no serious errors prior to creating the ISO image. The actual ISO file is 21.74GB.

When I first discovered this problem I re-organized the DVDA menus & video input files and then re-created the ISO file just to see if some quirk in how the DVDA media was arranged might fix the problem. It didn't.

So I'm hoping someone has seen something like this before and can give a clue abotu what to do with it.

I guess the first question would be, is computer playback your intended target or are you planning on this working on a standalone bluray player?

I have DVDFab Media Player and find it quite buggy. Don't base your assessment on it alone.

I suggest that you invest in a rewritable BD disc. Burn to it and try in a hardware BD player.

Alternatively, you could mount the ISO file using say Virtual Clone Drive, and play it with Corel WinDVD Pro, Cyberlink PowerDVD (Pro or Ultra) or Nero Blu-ray Player, all of which display the BD menu fully. I do not think any free BD player exists that will display menus, probably due to licence requirements.

Dave T2:

My final; playaback will be from a BluRay disk via a PS3 ==> HDTV.

PeterDuke:

I understand about free software, license fees, and all that. DVDFab is free only up to the point that you tell it you want to play a BluRay disk with menus. At that point you have to register it and pay for teh Pro version, which is what I have.

I did have a R/W BluRay disk and used it several times to verify ISO files similar to the one I have now. But something happened with that disk that made it unmountable as either a data disk or a video disk, so I pitched it and just never got another.

For what a BD costs these days, is it worth the worry of wasting one disc? I've found in the past that verifying with a BDRW takes so long, it's easier to burn a BD at full speed and save time.

Arthur S.

You are correct of course. My burner runs at 6X so I could burn a disk while I eat dinner or watch the news. I'd be risking a dollar more or less - not a big deal.

I'm probably going to end up doing that. It just bothers me that something that is supposed to work (and for which I paid money) isn't working quite right.

And what if the problem still exists on the physical disk? If that happens I'll be doubly burned (pun intended.)

"And what if the problem still exists on the physical disk?"

At least you will have made a start to pin down where the problem lies, viz. that it is not the DVDFab Player.

Just a thought, but did you not gat any software bundled with your Blu-ray burner - maybe a version of PowerDVD?
Birk Binnard wrote on 8/15/2014, 2:48 AM
Yes, it was a very old version of PowerDVD and it installed a big bunch of junk on my system. I took it all off a long time ago because it never seemed to work all that well.

I'll probably go ahead and burn a disk in the morning sometime. But my guess is the disk will behave the same way. In which case I'll be at a loss on what to do next.

The problem WAS with DVDFab.

I made a BluRay disk and used it to play the disk on my PC - same results as before. But when I put the disk into my PS3 it played A-OK.

Life in the big city!
