Increasing light and visibility

I have filmed an engagement ceremony that took place under poor lighting conditions at night. Now I am trying to make the people more visible by using various filters provided by Sony. Could anyone with experience in this area help me by indicating which filters should be used with which parameters to get the best results please. Thanks.

Well, Brightness/Contrast would be a good, simple place to start.

A higher level effect would be Levels, which gives you a bit more control over the levels of the individual color channels.

Color Curves would work as well. I recently used it to correct a poor lighting situation with very acceptable results. I used the Brighten Brights preset and played with the curve a little bit to get exactly what I wanted. After doing that I used the Color Corrector and Secondary Color Corrector to fix washed out colors from brightening, A quick way to do this is to use the preset Studio RGB to Computer RGB in both Correctors. If this darkens the video go to the Color Color Corrector and adjust the slider for Gamma until it suits you. Remember you can always double click a slider or node point in a plug-in to restore the default if you get too far astray. Good luck with your project.
