Independent audio and video edit

I just bought VMS8. Pretty intuitive overall, except I would like to be able to cut, delete sections an so on with the audio. But when I cut the audio, delete or move it, the same happens to the video. Is there a way to un-link the audio and video? The files I am using come from a JVC HDD recorder and are in .MOD file format.

By default audio and video coming from the same file are grouped together so they will be copied, deleted, etc, together.

To alter this behaviour you can select the audio event in question and then press the U button (for Ungroup). This removes the link between the audio and the video and you can now edit them independently.

Alternatively you can select the "Ignore event grouping" button on the toolbar which will have much the same effect. Best to unselect it again afterwards so that things that you do want grouped together will behave correctly.

(The above is for Vegas Pro but I think it is the same for VMS.)

Thanks so much. That works how I had hoped. It seems exactly as you described for Vegas Pro. It seems once that grouping is broken it never totally goes back. After that it seems to apply to any files that are selected together, rather than the original content that was grouped.

Not certain if it works the same in your Vegas application, but, in all versions of Vegas that I can recall (I'm presently using V8Pro), you can select any ungrouped events and regroup them using the group command.

Look for that command to see if your software includes it and give it a try.

Good luck.
