Individual MP3 Music Volume: How to adjust for each song

scharles wrote on 1/21/2002, 10:33 PM
I am finding that Videofactory is doing everything I need it to do (for now), except for 1 thing. Is there anyway to adjust the volume to for each MP3 song you put in the Music Track when putting more than 1 MP3 song. I see I am adjust the master track for the all of the music, but not for each MP3, or for some sections of an MP3. Some songs I want are loud (no talking sections), other I want MP3 music in the background, but not drowning out voices. Would also like to adjust volume within an MP3 song (make some parts loud and other parts soft)

Any idea how I can handle that in VideoFactory?

Thanks

Steve Charles

VF is limited to just 3 audio tracks and while each can be at a seperate volume, you can't adjust volume relative to sections within a track. So a track needs to be at a given volume. For much more control and unlimited tracks there's Vegas Video. A neat feature I like in Vegas is you can set points within audio tracks, so you can drop/raise the volume within a song or track as much as you want.

I moved up to Vegas but before I did I had some success with this trick. Use the three audio tracks then render to AVI. Reopen as a NEW file and those 3 tracks should be merged into one audio track. You now have two additional audio tracks. You could repeat one more time.

Sure you can. Just grab the top of the mp3 track on the timeline (your icon turns into a hand) and pull it down. The waveforms get smaller as you decrease the gain. You can slice 'n dice the music and adjust each section.

You can add a Timeline with Nodes to each audio track. You can then adjust these nodes at different points to bring the audio level up and down.

You have to turn on the View Audio Timeline (I think that is what it is called, I am not on my computer). Some software audio programs call this "evolution" line. You should see a blue line in the middle of the audio track.

Then add a node for the beginning of the transition and a node for the end.

You can do this for as many audio transitions as you like on any audio track, including the voice/sync track. this will also work for Pans. After you add the transition/fade, you can adjust the type of ramp on the transition by right clicking. It will show you visual representations of the audio transition. Choose the one that works for your effect.

I believe the Show Me or Help file has more on this.

To WVG, this option has always been in Video Factory as well.

Okay, I am home now.

Right click on an audio track, and go to View Audio Envelope. Check the Volume or Pan option and you now have a blue line in the middle of the audio track. Right click on this to add nodes and use these nodes to set levels and transitions.

Hope this helps.

Thanks to everyone for your help! VideoFactory IS NOW the program for me for my initial plunge into Digital Video Editing. I just now ordered the real product and will be making movies real soon!
