"Initializing External Monitoring" lag

I've been using Sony Vegas 11.0 for some months with no issues. Last night, when I went to reopen a project file, the opening screen just sat on "Initializing External Monitoring" and never opened. I had uploaded no new programs, nor made any setting changes to my computer. I uninstalled the program and reinstalled, trying both the original version and the update to no avail. It still has the same issue. Previous forum topics pertaining to this yielded no substantial advice to help with the problem. Short of reformatting my laptop and attempting to reload again, are there any methods that users would recommend that, based upon experience, have helped solve this specific problem?

Posting your system specs in your profile might help some us ask the right questions...

Windows 7 x64, 2 gig Intel Pentium Processor, DVD burner, sound card et al are out of the box for it. a Lenovo G560 notebook.

Here are the min system specs on the SONY Vegas Pro page:
Vegas Pro 11 system requirements

Microsoft® Windows Vista® 32-bit or 64-bit SP2, or Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit
2 GHz processor (multicore or multiprocessor CPU recommended for HD or stereoscopic 3D)
500 MB hard-disk space for program installation
2 GB RAM (4 GB recommended)

Not sure how an Intel Pentium qualifies ...

I've been using the program for a year without a single issue. I don't believe the capabilities of the computer are an issue. I just don't know what would be.

If you've been using the same computer, then I'd be looking at what has changed, however innocuous, to cause this.

You say nothing has changed, but clearly something has - maybe a M'soft update?

Another option you have is to reset Vegas Pro to factory defaults by holding down Ctrl+Shift when you launch Vegas.

Maybe others can chime in ....

Wouldn't think it would be a Microsoft update. I keep that computer free of the Internet and use it as an editing station only (I think the last time I connected to the Internet with it was when I registered Vegas many moons ago). I have found the problem doesn't exist when working in Safe Mode, for what that's worth.

Something crash maybe? Corrupt a file? Try restoring to the last time it worked and see what happens.

I had the very same issue and ended up reformatting the computer. Try as I might to find an answer from many sources I had no choice. Still a mystery.

Housekeeping?

This is a laptop, yes? How much space have you got? Maybe you've reached the physical limit of what you've got available for Vegas to load.

From the description you gave Tom, I'm reading that maybe you've been able to get VP11 to work, but now the laptop could be struggling.

Yes there are issues for some of us using VP11. Yes, that which worked in VP10 is now straining VP11. We've kinda gotten to live with that. My point is that that which used to work for you could be creaking at the joints now, because VP11 is just so demanding.

That would go a long way in explaining why "now" and not previously, and having a "load" issue is the honest outcome.

Cheers

" I have found the problem doesn't exist when working in Safe Mode, for what that's worth."

That's a good clue. When you run in the "Safe Mode", Windows uses it's own very generic drivers.

I have a similar issue on one PC here. Vegas 11 crashes every day on the first run during the "Initializing External Monitoring". It loads and runs fine for the rest of the day.

I know that the problem is in the DisplayLink driver for the third monitor which is connected to a USB to DVI adapter.

Steve,

I have exactly the same issue with VP11/683, but it is not always at the same point and it happens after each reboot of the PC.

It's pretty well the only issue I have with VP11, though I must admit that in the normal course of editing, I do not stress Vegas Pro to its limits.

Wish I had some lead as to what is causing it, but so far I am living with it.
