Inpoint / Outpoint Editing - Keyboard Shortcut?

Hi there...I've been trying for a while to figure out a real quick way to edit the inpoint or outpoint of a clip on the fly, using keyboard shortcuts and without having to drag with my mouse.

In Windows Movie Maker when you enter either "i" or "o" on the keyboard (for inpoint or outpoint), everything in the given clip before ("i") or after ("o") disappears - thus easily setting your inpoint or outpoint, and withouth having to drag with your mouse.

Does Vegas Movie Studio have a similar shortcut? It seems so simple but I haven't found anything as easy as in Windows Movie Maker.

It seems in Vegas I still have to use my mouse to drag to the inpoint or outpoint (hope that makes sense). I'm aware of the "trim" and "delete" commands, but that requires setting both inpoint and outpoint. I just want to do one or the other, as I go along, not both.

Any thoughts anyone could share would be SO appreciated! Thanks so much...Robert

Probably the closest Vegas comes to that is to press S to split at the cursor position, then click in the part you don't want to select it & delete.

Alternatively, if you have the cursor at the in or out position, you can then drag the end of the clip to the cursor to trim it.

i and o work for me to create a highlighted area on the timeine. You then need to double-click the highlighted bar to make that area the selection area. Once you have the selection area, simply press CTRL-T and everything before and after the selection area will be gone.

Thanks so much, Chienworks and jetdv, for your replies.

I actually have been using the techniques that you both describe, and was just fishing to see if there might be an even more streamlined and simple solution.

No biggie though and I'll continue to use the split and trim commands, and dragging on the timeline.

If anyone knows of any other brilliant shortcut that I'm missing, though, do share ;-)

Thanks again...Robert

What about using the trimmer? Use i and o just as you were doing. Then drag the selection to the timeline and you're done. Not everyone likes or uses the trimmer. Though, it is my preferred method.

No need to drag from Trimmer to Timeline - just press A (Don't kinow if it's the same in Studio but pressing Tab in the Pro version will allow you to transfer video alone, audio alone or both).
