Insert editing?/stopping the motion?

What is the easiest way to add scenes into the timeline after you already have existing events. The way I do it now is just drag the events down the timeline to make room and it messes up all my transistions, titles, etc...

I want to be able to have a video event stop at the end with the last frame still showing so I can run some text over it. The way I have been doing it is making a snap shot of the last frame and dragging it as a jpg. However, the video to jpg transition is poor. And their really should be an easier way.

tim,

You can drag events down the timeline without messing up transitions or titles by selecting the first event on each track by holding down the shift key, then right-click and pick "Select events to end". Then all events you want to move will be selected and will move as a group.

You could also place the cursor at the insertion point and from the Insert menu, select "Time". You can then delete any remaining time by double-clicking the blank space and hitting the delete key.

The snapshot is the correct method of getting a freeze frame. But you need to right-click the preview window and select "Display at project size" before taking the snapshot to get a full size image, otherwise the picture will be taken at the same resolution as the preview window. It should then look seemless.

Well, I tried the right click ( and shift right click.... what's the difference BTW), and it's close. But it only selects everything on the track you click on. So if I move the video, the events are good, but the audio tracks and titles in the overlay track are left behind.

Is there away to have all the different tracks selected an move together?

Sorry tim, I didn't explain it the selection process very well.

At the point on the timeline where you want to move the tail end of your project, select the top most event by clicking it, then hold the shift key while clicking on the bottom most event. All events in-between should be selected. Then right-click any of those events and select "Select events to end" (or right-click and hit "v").

Then all of the events should be selected till the end of the time-line and they should all move as a group. If you mess up, just hit the undo button.

Another method of selecting is by using the CTRL key. Select the first event by clicking it, then hold the CTRL key while clicking each successive event until you have one event selected from each track, then do the right-click/"v" to select the rest. The SHIFT and CTRL method of selection is common to all "windows" applications. Try it in windows explorer.

Yet another method of selection is to pick the selection tool from "Edit/Editing Tool/Selection". Then you can just draw a lasso around all the events you want to select, then right-click/"v" if you want to select the tail end of your project.

If all else fails, try the "Insert/Time" trick. It might be easier for you.

And there is no reason to hold the shift key while right-clicking anything.

Sorry if I've confused you more.
