Insert Scene/Chapter Marker Greyed Out

Can't believe I'm asking such a basic question, but can't figure it out.

Insert Scene/Chapter Marker button is always greyed out. I double click on any of the menu levels, as in the instructions, and all of the buttons over the timeline from Insert Subtitle thru auto ripple are always greyed out.

What am I missing?

I suspect that you're viewing / editing a menu rather than a media item. Menus cannot have chapters (or subtitles), so those buttons are disabled. Double-click (or right-click and choose "Navigate Into") a video, and you will see that the relevant buttons are enabled.

Still a no-go. I can right click and select Navigate Into from all of the levels in the Project Overview window except the top and bottom items, but still the same buttons are greyed out.

BTW, what I have is a 1 hour mpg made in Vegas. I want to create a menu to enable the viewer to select the desired chapter to watch.

Can you navigate into your movie, take a screenshot of the whole screen, and post it? Need to be able to see the timeline, the workspace, and the Project Overview window.

If you can't post a screenshot, e-mail it to me at bstro at 50mail dot com. Or just send me the project (no media necessary, just the DAR file).

I'm 95% certain that if you are unable to insert chapters, etc, that you are navigated into a menu. Maybe you accidentally added your video as a menu background instead of as a media item?
