You don't have to shift anything....Just click on "insert video track", create your title with the help of one of the preset and drag it wherever you want in that new video track. After all this, you have to render the clip.

This is what I do.

1/- Ctrl Home - This puts the Cursor right a the beginning.

2/- Ensure Auto Ripple on, with ALL Tracks, MArkers, and Regions is slected

3/ - Click Auto Ripple ON

4/ - Go>Insert>Text Media

Done!

This works for me ...

This is what Help says (in Vegas 4):

Select the tracks where you want to insert time. If no tracks are selected, time is inserted across all tracks.

Position the cursor where you want to begin.

From the Insert menu, choose Time. The Insert Time dialog box appears.

Enter the amount of time you want to insert and click OK.

suden - I t was the " . .client has now decided to put a title at the beginning" and the "5 seconds" that made me think it wasn't an option for putting the title "over" the video. No? But in front of the video?

Maybe it's just me, but isn't this exactly what Insert > Time is for...?
