Inserting clips/ripple edit

From the VMS forum I've concluded that you cannot insert video from the media pool to the timeline between clips and have everything to the right automatically move over even with ripple edit on. It will move over on a paste but not from the pool. Is this consistent with Vegas 5.0? I bought VMS to decide between Pinnacle LE and Vegas 5.0 for a more powerful solution. As nice of features as Vegas offers, if this simple task has to be done in more than one step then I would really be bummed to have to go back to Pinnacle for a prosumer choice. I now use studio8. Can anyone give me some insight on this simple issue? Even Roxio and WMM can do this minor task.

Ripple has never really properly worked in any version of Vegas. Until V4, ripple did not even exist. In V5, no improvements were made to fix the ripple problems of V4 and so the same problems exist also in V5.

Somehow this program and its programming team - refuses to resolve the ripple issue. I have no idea why. I have been personally complaining about it for 2 years, maybe more and no change. It is a repeatable bug and embarrasing.

Although there is an anomaly with certain types of fades, for most situations Vegas ripple since version 4 is very reliable - I use post edit ripple (Ctrl/Shift F), which is the manual version of auto ripple, many times a day without a single problem ... and yes, it does work when adding from Media Pool.

Hi Peter-

The type of problems that I describe are A: repeatable and B: happen in post ripple as well as regular ripple. It is a bug that has survived 2 versions of Vegas and needs to be resolved (IMHO).

I can demonstrate it to you or anyone who is interested.

As far as I know this is the only bug in Vegas that actually undoes work that has already been performed. There are some cases when two clips that are butted next to eachother will delete fades as well. I consider this to be a a related problem.

The only question is will it be resoved or ignored?

Hi Stephen
I agree completely that the "disappearing fades" problem should be fixed, and am surprised it hasn't.
I have been aware of it since you pointed it out way back. The situation where it occurs is not one I commonly use, so apart from being aware of it, and ready to use a workaround, it hasn't prevented me from using and recommending Ripple.

Good luck with the next revision ......

I confirm Ripple Edit does work when adding clip from Media Pool.
But, I must admit Liquid Edition is a more powerful solution than Vegas. Try the Trim tool in Liquid and you will understand…
However, Vegas stay the more handy and easy NLE I know.
