Inserting & Deleting Clips

Novice user here. Quick question for you Pros. The pervious editor I used allowed me to place a video clip on the time line and it would move all other video and audio clips to the right. Similar to "insert". Same with deleting a clip or portion of it. Everything would be moved to the left and no gap would appear between remaining clips.

How do I configure Vegas 4 to do the same thing?

Thanks for your help. Coming from Studio 8 I find Vegas to be an incredible program. Just alot to learn!!

Thanks,
Galen

If I'm not mistaken what you are asking about is the rippling.

Thanks for your response. Yes it has to do with rippling. In Studio 8 rippling only referred to inserting a particular transition between multiple clips automatically.

So I now can use it to close the gap between two clips if I delete a clip.

If I have two video clips adjacent to each other on track one and I want to insert a clip between the two, I place the new clip at the end of the first clip, but it just overlaps the second clip. I can't seem to get the ripple to "push" the second clip to the right.

Thanks again for helping this novice user!!!

Galenq
1.Switch on tool bar (View/Toolbar)
2.Click on AutoRipple or avoid 1 & 2 with (Ctrl+L)
3.Place cursor between clip1 and clip2
4.In media pool Double click on clip to be inserted
Voila! Clip 3 inserted and all clips move to the right.

You can also copy or cut a clip and paste it instead of 4. above. (e.g you may have a clip on the timeline already)
Incidentally AutoRipple is also wonderful for removing gaps between clips.
1. Ctrl +l to switch AutoRipple on
2.Double click anywhere in a gap
3.Press delete
Gap gone & all clips shift to the left to fill gap.
Hope that helps.
