inserting events

This question will probably really sound stupid but here goes. I just got my software and I can't figure out how to insert an event inbetween two other events so that the event to the right will automatically slide over instead of overlapping the one I just inserted. Pinnacle and ulead do this automatically. Does this have anything to do with snapping enabled or ripple edit? If so how would I go about doing that? Thanks

There are a number of ways to accomplish this, cinco.

1) With Rippled Edits enabled, position the timeline cursor (the vertical hairline that moves along the timeline when you video plays) where you want to insert your clip. Then simply select your clip from your Media Pool (or a portion of it in your Trimmer) and hit Enter. Your new cip will pop in at the timeline position and move everything else on that track to the right.

2) Again with Ripple Edits enabled, position your timeline cursor where you want to insert your clip and Add Time. (Add more than you'll need) This will slide all the clips from there on as far to the right as you designate. Then you can move your new clip into position. Now simply double-click on the space between the end of the new clip and the rest of the clips you moved aside and delete the space. The clips to the right will snap right up against your new clip.

3) You can also choose your Selection Tool (From the Edit menu) and drag it to lasso all the clips you want to move and then just slide them off to one side until your new clip is in place.

Finally, if you're getting frustrated that every time you try to move a clip into place, it overlaps the clips on either side and forms a crossfade, uncheck Enable Crossfades.

Hope that gets you started!

True, none of these moves are quite as simple as Studio's method of just dropping the clips into place -- but you also won't have any of the annoying out-of-sync sound problems you often get with Studio either.
