Yes, enable Auto Ripple. Options > Auto Ripple or click on the Auto Ripple icon.
If you have more than one video or audio track on the timeline, click on the down-arrow next to the Auto Ripple icon on the toolbar and choose All Tracks. They will be shifted as well (assuming you want that).
I must be missing something here, I can't get it to work.
i.e. I have a number of clips on my video track. I want to insert one in the middle. How do I do this so that everything moves over? I have the ripple selected. I think I'm confused :)
Say I have put 10 clips on the timeline. I forgot one, so want to insert it between clips 5 and 6. When I do it now, it just puts the clip right on top of clip 6, covering it up. Nothing moves over, I have to manually move them.
Wonder if there is something I am missing in the steps?
Hi Menopausal,
I think you will find if you put the video clip you want to insert on the same timeline first as 5 and 6, and then RIGHT click and drag it over 5 and 6 and then drop it, you will get a menu with several options. Click on 'shuffle events' and I believe that should do the trick. Let us know. Cin
Shuffle events will swap the two events. I don't think that's what is being requested.
Two options I can see:
1) Make sure auto-ripple is turned on and the "ripple all tracks, markers, regions" is selected, to be safe. Then when you drop a clip, all clips to its right should move over.
-or-
2) From the menu, select "insert > time" (I believe that is the option), and specify the amount of time you want to add. That amount of time will be added at the point where your cursor is, and everything to the right of the cursor will move over.
