Inserting Text

Does Vegas 6 have expanded functions for creating text in movies.

I am trying to create the look of teletype on the screen to prolouge the intro to a movie.

Type out letter by letter like many movies now adays.
If not, any suggestions on an easier way to do it?

Currently I create a .mov in photoshop with multiple frames typing out letter by letter.
This takes forever.

You can do this with Vegas' text generator, but it's not very automatic. Left justify the text if you want what's already on the screen to stay put. Enter the first letter, then set a keyframe a couple frames down the timeline, then enter the next letter, then a new keyframe ... etc. The spacing of the keyframes will determine the speed of the letters appearing.

Yes, it's two steps for each letter, but it sure beats creating them all in photoshop!

Like everything creative there are multiple ways to skin this cat. Unfortunately, none of them are as simple as drag and drop unless you find someone has made a script for this.

You could use a mask or a "cookie cutter" effect and then keyframe each reveal of each letter. Depending on how much text you intend to include you would need a couple of stop points for each letter.

If you wanted to make it look like it was being typed, meaning the letters would start and the right of the screen and then move left you would have to play with pan and crop or track motion to move each half dozen or so frames to the left after each letter was revealed.

But in answer to the core of your question there is no one step process to create this effect in Vegas. There are others on this forum who have far more experience with the product and perhaps they have a different approach that can shortcut one of my steps.

Good luck.
