Inserting Time / Envelopes - Time Delay Before Recording

Using Vegas Audio 2.0h

Like many home recordists, I am the engineer and performer. Unfortunately, my studio bedroom has 4 computers in it, so I have my microphones in the adjacent bedroom. I hit record, shut both doors, put on my headphones and start singing.

In my current song, I didn't add enough empty time before the beginning of the song and the vocals start right away. You can see my problem.

I tried inserting time at the beginning of the project but I noticed the envelopes don't move when inserting.

So I guess I have two questions:

Can you insert/copy/paste and have your envelopes move with the tracks that already exist and are getting pushed forward?

And can you set up a time delay before recording begins?

Perhaps I need to move to Vegas 4?

Forgive me if these questions have already been answered in this forum. I did spend some time searching the forum and in the program's help section.

Thank you.

I would think the simplest solution is to select all events/tracks and move them a few bars later (use snap-to). Then copy a few bars of say drums ahead of the song to act as a metronome if you need it.
I always have 2-4 empty bars in front of my tracks.

I've never seen Vegas 2 so i don't know if it has this feature, but Vegas 4 as a command in the option menu to Lock Envelopes to Events. With this on, moving event keeps the envelope points in the same place relative to the event rather than relative to the timeline. If Vegas 2 has this, it will probably do what you want.

Yes, I found that option and it worked. Thanks for your help guys.

You can do it!
acting like it is a running punch.
Leave empty space at beginning of song, if dubs start at the beginning.
Insert an Event where you want to begin recording, drag the length as long as you need it.
Then backup before the punch spot, Hold Ctr and Highlite the event.
when you press record...the recording won't start till you reach the event.
good luck
