Inserting Video into ACID

Does anyone know the best format and smallest size I can render out a vegas video to insert into ACID for scoring? Then I want to render out the ACID .wav and insert it into Vegas sync'd to a DV NTSC project. I could not get vegas video rendered mp4 to view in ACID, but a full size avi would.

(PS, I lost my SAMS 24 hour book, Johnny Roys Instant ACID does not address it and I could not specifics in the ACID help files.)

Thanks, Jeff

As long as you're only using it for syncing, go for the smallest, most compressed size you can. You could render to 160x120 80kbps WMV for example. If you need a better looking image then use a larger frame size and higher bitrate. Even 320x240 512kbps will be a lot smaller file size than DV.

I'd recommend MPEG1, maybe using a VCD template, for easy playback that doesn't take up too much processor time.

How about full SD resolution DV codec? This works really well and is probably the least CPU intensive of all the options, but only if you use a 1394 to Video box like a Canopus ADVC-100 and an external TV or monitor.

The reason why is because all your computer has to do is transfer the compressed video to the box. The actual decompressing is done in hardware. It easier on your CPU to pass full resolution DV to a hardware convertor than it is to decompress even the simplest forms of video compression.

Kind of cool to have your video full screen and full resolution too ;-)
