Install Vegas Pro 8 and keep Vegas 7d?

ScorpioProd wrote on 9/27/2007, 3:52 PM
I just received my boxed Vegas Pro 8 today.

If I install it on my Vegas 7d system, I can have both programs working, correct?

Are there any advantages or problems avoided by uninstalling Vegas 7d first?

Since there are always some issues with new versions, I feel safer keeping my solid Vegas 7d installed as well for now, as long as it won't interfere with Vegas Pro 8.

Keep'em both. I have 7 & 8 on the same machine and 4-6 on another.

Yeah, keep'em both installed. I have all my working projects still residing in 7e, but I've opened a couple of new shorties (one using Cineform NEO and another using m2t) just to look around. I've played with batch renders, Cinescore, and DVDA 4.5 on Pro8 just to get a feel. To be honest, ProTitler is not intuitive. But that's why I'm playing around on non-consequential stuff.

Be careful, every time you open Pro8 it prompts you to associate all *.veg files with it. Until you're ready, say NO.

On one system I have Vegas 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 installed. No problems.

You better keep 7 installed- Vegas 8 won't do MPEG2 files correctly.

Why must one be careful about this? Having the association set for V8 does not prevent you from opening V7 files in V7, right? You can either start up V7 then --->File--->Open and navigate to your V7 .veg file, or you can right click on the .veg file name from explorer and use the open with command.

It's not as quick as just double left clicking the file name, but it isn't all that inconvenient. Tell me if I'm wrong about this (although it's a little late for me, I intuitively clicked yes to that question the first time it came up, although I've opened several .veg files in V7 since).

BirdOPrey...

What do you mean that Vegas 8 won't do MPEG2 correctly? So far I have had no problems rendering for SD output for use in DVDA 4.5.
