Installation Issues

Well I posted under the other topic some problems I had with real-time preview. I decided to try the demo on my computer at work and the real-time preview worked! So something must be wrong with the install at home. Especially since my computer at work is a dinosaur. The one difference is that I have XP Professional at work and XP Home at Home.

I did unistall and reinstall at home last night. Is there some sort of registry clearner you have to do? Do I need to manually delete directories. Any assistance would be helpful. This sounds like questions I would be asking on the Pinnacle site:-)

Look for background programs running on your home computer. Especially if you share your computer with other family members, you may tend to accumulate lots of browser toolbars, music playing/sharing programs, instant messengers, virus scanners, spyware, adware, all the crud that the manufacturer preloaded onto your computer that you'll never want or use, etc. All of these things steal processor cycles and slow your computer down. Many home PCs come with a ton of software preinstalled that launches automatically and runs in the background whether you want it or not. Get rid of a lot of that stuff and your preview speed should improve dramatically.

I built my own computer from parts rather than buying an "off the shelf" system. While i did this because i enjoy building computers, another primary reason was that i got to start with a completely blank hard drive, install clean and uncluttered Windows XP direct from Microsoft, and then add only the software i wanted. It only has an 866MHz processor but it can still run circles around some of the 2.8GHz computers we have at work that have all the extra garbage running on them.

I will try that I typically run "Enditall" prior to doing video edits. The problem that I had was that the video preview did not work, I could hear the audio but the video was stuck on a frame of the video. Would be impossible to even edit the clip. I am going to uninstall, try to delete every item that I can find in the registry, temp folders, etc. and then reinstall and see how that works. If it does not then I may do a system restore from a couple of days ago and see how that works. Thanks

Does this problem happen on all the video tracks? It's possible you've switched the offending track off.

Yes it was happening on all video tracks. What would happed is a frame of video would show in the preview area, but the audio was playing ok. This frame would be stuck for 30 seconds or so, then it would jump to another one. Very strange.

I am nervous that the full version of the program will not function correctly. My system is not low end, it is not super high end either but if it can handle Studio 9 it should be able to handle this program. Well it will be several more days before I get the program and can try it out. I am also going to try to do the best clean unistall/reinstall of the demo and see if I can get it to work correctly.

>Very strange Indeed! I've run MS very happily on a PIII, so your system should have plenty of clout. When you tried using a different PC, did you use the same video clip(s)? And what are they? I wonder if you're missing a codec on your home system - it might be worth getting a copy of GSpot and seeing what it tells you about the clips and your system.

Well I do not know what had happened, but I deleted Screenblast, went in and deleted the registry entries, deleted all my temp folders, and the program folders. Then I did a clean install with Vegas Movie Studio Demo. Everything works fine. I had one strange thing happen during the install of the demo, had Microsoft Digital Plus come up ask for my code and it said that Microsoft Movie Studio 2 would not work without it. I just closed out of that. I still have the trial copy of Microsoft Digital Plus on my computer and I am thinking of uninstalling it - do not need it anyway.

Well all is good and as far as I can tell all the features in the Demo work, so I am waiting impatiently now for my copy of Vegas Movie Studio + DVD to arrive:-)
