Installations

I bought Vegas back at v13 and have bought upgrades through v20. I also bought the v21 upgrade but had not installed it because I expected to set it up on a new PC. This week the older PC crashed, and I need to install.

I received some useful plug-ins (e.g. Chroma Key Pro) with a few of the upgrades, and would like to retain them. I also don't want to lose any older functions (e.g. applying old Film Effects). So: Do I need to install starting from the original v13? If I simply install v21 on the new PC, will the plug-ins disappear? Will I be stopped from installing the upgrade if there is no prior installation on the PC?

At the moment I'm considering going through every installation in sequence, then uninstalling everything except v20 and v21. Is this tedious process absolutely necessary?

As far as VEGAS is concerned, you only need to install 21. Unsure about the plugins. That would depend on whether they were bundled with specific versions or purchased. If purchased, just install and activate for 21. If bundled, they may or may not require the older version to be found. You'd just have to try the installer and see what it says.

Thank you! A clean, simple v21 installation would be great. Since Chroma Key Pro and a few plug-ins were embedded with earlier purchases, I suspect that I must take The Tedious Route in order to ensure that they remain available. I can then delete the older programs.

Not necessarily. I'd try them with only 21 installed first. Of course it's fine to have multiple versions installed too. This machine has versions 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, and 22 installed.

Thanks. By the end of Saturday night I had installed Movie Studio 13 Platinum through Vegas Pro 21. It took a few hours to go through the re-entry of serial numbers, etc. This morning, on the older PC, I deleted all but 9, 20 and 21 — and found that pretty much everything was working. My biggest issue right now is trying to get Accusonus VST plug-ins to work well on v21; they appear not to be operating correctly (sometimes not at all). Unfortunately, Accusonus was sold and there's no one to turn to any longer for support, so I'll have to find an alternative for their elegant, unobtrusive audio plug-ins (e.g. for reducing low room noise, sibilance, loud breaths, etc.).

@R-Gengerke Nothing is wrong having Accusonus VST2 plugins working in Vegas v21. I have them working perfectly.... They are an exceptional line of audio plugins, pity the company closed their doors.

Make sure you are installing the vst2 versions, then refresh/rescan the "VST Effects" list in Preferences and you should be ok.... However if you're still gonna look for an alternative, nothing beats the current version of Borisfx Crumplepop.

Thank you — I'm with you on this. The plug-ins worked fine on the older PC's installations of Vegas 18, 19 and 20. On the newer PC, Accusonus bundle 6 (ERA6) didn't seem to be working (version 5 worked but the controls didn't show!).

I think they are ok now after I did the following:
(1) Refresh the list of folders;
(2) Start a new (test) project and apply ERA6 Noise Remover;
(3) Save the new project;
(4) Close the program.
Upon re-launching v21 I think that now all of the Accusonus ERA6 64-bit VST2 plug-ins are working. Will have to test to be 100% sure.

Thank you especially for the tip regarding BorisFX Crumplepop — sounds like something I should look into.
