I downloaded and installed the update posted above. Now every time I close VMS Platinum I get the following message:

PinnacleDevNotify: VegasMovieStudioPE80,exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x020c2fa9" referenced memory at "0x02132248".

Click OK to terminate the program.

Any ideas?

Why does it say "Pinnacle"Devnotify? Do you have Pinnacle installed too?

Good question. I have had Pinnacle installed since the beginning. Didn't get this error before the update.

If you don't need Pinnacle anymore, try uninstalling it and see if it fixes the problem.

Well, I do need Pinnacle. I have had it and used it since long before Vegas Movie Studio. I started with VMS 6 and have upgraded every time. This is the first time this has been a problem, and it's obviously a VMS problem with this update. Nothing else has changed on my computer.

There is also a problem that just got fixed where I had to use a new user name, I was womanmarine but will have to go with this for now, rather than pursue it with customer support. So this is really me, womanmarine.

I have spoken to tech support and will do an uninstall and reinstall of the update. If that doesn't work, I will be rolling back to 8.

may I suggest after you do the uninstall - you recheck pinnacle and make sure it is working as expected before you take another shot at the update with VMS. My experience with pinnacle is that it throws itself everywhere and neither installs nor uninstalls neatly. That being said it is possible one of its many unstable processes was running in the background at the time of your update. Consider trying a bare bones (selective) boot of your computer before you do the update to eliminate the possibility of a conflict or hang in the installation. friendly reminder - Set a restore point before you install any software - it can save a lot of headache. Good luck with it

Thanks Rustier!

I paid the $15 to tech support, did the install with minimal running, still get the error. Uninstalled everything Sony. Reinstalled. Still error message. Uninstalled everything. Re-installed 8.0a. No error message. So tech support will be letting programming know of this error.

Pinnacle runs fine, such as it is. I keep it because there are a few things it has like plugins, that I paid a good price for and would like to keep using when I want them. Up until this update it has all been fine. I started with VMS 6 and have upgraded every time, and no problems until now, so I can't complain too loudly, it's just frustrating :)

At least now I know how to uninstall and reinstall if necessary for the next update.

Just a quick note on the restore point business, my computer guru has recommended against using this, so I just do periodic backups. Most of my data is on another drive so I don't do them too often, and I have backups of all updates, etc that I have downloaded, so if worse came to worse, I could start from scratch and get everything back. (God forbid I should have to, because it would take days I think!!). I also use Drive Image to make a good backup of my C drive periodically. I should be okay.

Thanks to all of you for the support and encouragement!! This forum is the best!!

Ruth, are you still running S10 or have you upgraded to S11?

I have S10.7 and upgraded to PE8 without issue. I've since loaded the S10.8 patch, no conflict there either so I'm not sure what your problem could be. Since uninstalling/reinstalling worked for menopausal, that may be what you'll need to do as well.

Did you ever get your "computer shuts down on it's own" problem sorted out?

ADDED: It just hit me, I haven't loaded the "b" patch yet so disregard my "no conflict" statement. Sorry.

MSmart:

Menopausal is womanmarine!! We are one and the same. Customer service had to fix my online account earlier today, they didn't have Version 8 registered. When they fixed that I had to re-register and lost the womanmarine user name.

Confused yet?

:)

I was wondering about that and thought it could be. What can I say.

That sucks about your user name. Here's to hoping you can get it back.
