Installed V6 - breaks Windows Media Player Full Screen Mode

Yesterday I installed Vegas 6 +DVD (trial). (I currently have V5+DVD).
After doing this, I find that "full screen mode" with Window Media player no longer works. I'm not sure if it is Vegas itself, or one of the Microsoft updates it required me to install (new DirectX, and .net). When I try to put it in full screen mode, it freezes up, then returns to normal mode.

Anyone else seen this? I watch quite a lot of streaming video with WMP (specifically baseball!), and use the full screen mode, connecting the PC to a external monitor.

I'm not sure what to do now... I want to trial Vegas 6, but I also want to watch the baseball. And if I uninstall the trial I don't think I'll be able to install it again.

Help!

I'm running WMP in full screen with V6... so not sure what your problem is... but at least you can be safe in the knowledge that it is not a "feature" of V6 that caused this.

mbryant, I'm not seeing this with my system. I'm using Vegas 6, Windows Media Player 9, Windows XP SP 1.

It's interesting that you are reporting this. I didn't know what was causing my Windows Media Player to fail to be able to go to full screen mode. By full screen, I mean when the top and bottom bars disappear and you only see the screen. I keep getting an error message, "error downloading codec" when running an mpeg2 file. In the past it would run without any errors. Even though I get the error message, my file still runs a few seconds later but I lose the ability to go to the extreme full screen mode. I have no problems when I run AVI files.

Now that you've mentioned it, it does coincide with my installation of V6. I too, will be anticipating any responses to this thread. Thanks.

Interesting, thanks for the replies.

By "full screen" mode, yes, I mean the mode where the video fills the entire screen (no "skin" at all). I can turn this on by clicking on the icon for full screen, or right click and select "full screen", or "alt-enter". This worked until I installed V6. I have Windows 2000, SP4.

I did some searching on the web for WMP full screen problems, and found this:

"Why does the Player stop playing when it's in full-screen mode?

Now this seems the opposite to what one would expect - you would expect that you need to have this box checked to allow full screen, but I tried this, and for me unchecking this box fixed the problem!

Again not sure why installing Vegas 6 caused this, or why this fixes it, but it did.
