Installing New Blue Effects and Transitions

RonRRR wrote on 2/5/2010, 11:09 AM
i Just downloaded and installed Vegas Platinum Pro Pack 9 and its components. Installation went smoothly with serial numbers provided by SONY by email. One problem though. I downloaded New Blue Effects and 3D Transitions but can't figure out how to install it in Vegas. Online support says to use install disk but since it was a download there is no install disk. tech support was not at all supportive. The first person hung up on me and the second one simply resent registration information serial numbers that I already had. Can anyone help me? Thanks

Double-click the supplied exe file, follow the prompts and enter the serial number.
When you open up Platinum again, you'll find them in the FX and Transitions tabs.

Is your NLE connected to the internet? My old NLE was not because I dont use to surf the net. Didn't even have the NIC drivers loaded. Sneaker net the downloaded apps and patches via a thumb drive after scanning the apps for viruses. I contacted NB and they basically said that I was out of luck.

I've since upgraded to an i7 and it is connected to the internet and I must say that the NB transitions and effects that come w/ Vegas Pro and Platinum are rather useless. I've only used one transition on a friends kid's 1st B-day just for the cheesy spinning box. Haven't used another one since.

Download the products desired, run the EXE file, choose "Sony Vegas" for most versions of Vegas or choose "Sony Vegas 64-bit" for Vegas Pro 8.1 or the 64-bit version of Vegas Pro 9.

Whenever I run Excalibur a Newblue advertisement pops up on a computer that does not have internet connection. It is pretty lame and annoying.

Thanks Mike but I don't see any executable for NB. Any idea what the file name might be?
rs170a wrote on 2/6/2010, 8:34 AM
RonRRR, it may have originally come as a zip file but what I installed (free sample pack with Vegas Pro 9) was called vp9-newbluesampler12.exe
I can't speak for any other NB packages as that's all I have from them.

be VERY careul with newblue...
I had it installed on a working V9, ended up updating my IE, then newblue wouldnt even let Vegas (7, 8, or 9) load past the DirectX loadup.

Had to unintall v9, reinstall v8 FROM SCRATCH and now when i go into NB filters, Vegas locks up.
Trying to uninstall NB failed, even add remove locked up.

Not impressed

Yep, they told me that if my production PC wasn't connected to the internet, I couldn't register their products.

I told them I wouldn't be buying any then!

Excalibur doesn't pop up ANY ads. What *might* be happening is that you are running Excalibur, Excalibur scans your list of effects to populate the effects boxes, and because it "touches" the Cartoonr effect, Cartoonr is popping up a dialog. Try uninstalling Cartoonr and I'll bet it goes away.

Thanks for the help.

That is not what their knowledgebase says. The only NewBlueFX plugin that cannot be registered offline is the free CartoonR. All their other plugins can be registered offline by following this procedure:

To activate from a computer with no internet connection:
1) Open the activation program and enter your serial number.
2) Choose the MANUAL ACTIVATION option.
3) Click on “Manual Activation” - you’ll be given a new key sequence and a web address.
4) Take those two pieces of information over to a computer that IS connected to the internet.
5) Go to that web page,
a. enter the new key sequence
b. Click on the “accept” button.
c. This will give you a THIRD key sequence.
6) Take this third key sequence back to the installation computer and enter that in the activation program.
7) Activation complete.

thas all fair and good but it doesnt explain the DX loadup hang... it also doesnt explain WHY the plugins wont uninstall...

im waiting till our current project is finished before i even try to reinstall NB...

its a pathetic installer to say the least...

Thanks Mike. I finally found the correct file and tried to execute it. I got through the first couple of prompts Ok but when it asked for my serial number, which I added, it would not allow me to proceed (the "next" button was not executable). I tried this several times just to be sure I was entering the correct number, but no luck. I sent a note to SONY explaining the problem, as well as sent back the original email that contained my order number and the serial number. My success with SONY answering anything has been zero. I'm really unhappy with a company that leaves customers out there when it comes to legit problems for which there is no answer in their extensive database.

funny though.. i know a guy who runs cracked versions of Vegas, and pretty much every plugin known to man, and hes NEVER had ANY issues with any of his systems...

Sometimes it makes me wonder though... i mean if a pirate can simply swap some kinda reg file and have the program running fine, why do we have to tolerate such garbage after we've paid hundreds of dollars for the same thing...

Ron, you need to talk to New Blue, not Sony about this problem.
I've had to contact them before and always found them to be very prompt in getting back to me.

Ron, not meaning to rub salt in the wound, but actually, you've posted in the wrong fourm. This forum is for Vegas Pro, a similar but different product.

You'll probably have better luck in the Vegas Movie Studio forum, which was created for your product.

Hi Jay. I purchased the Platinum Pro Pack for Vegas. Is this the correct forum for that? Ron
RonRRR wrote on 2/9/2010, 6:22 AM
Thanks again Mike. I'll give them a try.
jetdv wrote on 2/9/2010, 9:06 AM
Ron, the "Platinum Pro Pack" is still "Vegas MOVIE STUDIO Platinum Pro Pack". So it's still a "Movie Studio" version with many fewer features than Vegas Pro.
Jay Gladwell wrote on 2/9/2010, 9:17 AM

Ron, the point being, like Edward points out, any advice you get here probably/might/may not work for you.

Better to ask those who are using the same program. Hence, two different forums.

Ron, I can tell you that Sony handles the distribution of all bundled software including the software download and the serial number. You really need to contact Sony Customer Service and they can give you both a download link and serial number for the NewBlue MSPP package. Are you sure the e-mail doesn't give you a link and serial number for the MSPP package?
