Installing on a new platform

Couldn't find this answered anywhere, so I hope you guys can help.

I originally purchased a boxed version of 8.0 and installed it on a Vista 32-bit machine. Some months ago, I took advantage of Sony Creative Software's offer and purchased a 9.0 upgrade (download) directly from their website.

Now, I'm building a completely new system from scratch and I want to install vegas on it. The machine is a i7-920 with 6 GB of DDR3 RAM, so a 64-bit OS is the way to go.

So how do I go about installing Vegas on it? Do I have to purchase a brand new, full version of 9 or can I re-use what I already payed for?

Thanks

If I recall, you are permitted to install Vegas on upto three machines with your single purchase.

This question gets answered a lot of different ways. Some folks mention a number of installs allowed and that number varies from 2 to 6. Actually, i don't think SONY specifies a number at all. I believe the rule is "as many computers as you own, as long as you only use it on one of them at a time."

many years ago I bought a second copy of Vegas so that I could continue using my original Vegas on the old machine while verifying that my new machine was stable. Maybe a year or so later I put together a third machine and tried to uninstall from my now-obsolete first machine; but I couldn't remember which CD held that's machine's Vegas. When I tried to install on the new machine, I couldn't register. A call to SoundForge (pre-Sony days) resulted in someone who saw all the SF items I had purchased, so he fixed my registration problem.

However, once the rendering problems surfaced a couple of years ago (or was it the red-screen problem?), Sony seems to have relaxed the rule a lot. In order to test ability to render to the end of the VEG without crashing on my various old machines (especially the one that had an Intel CPU on an Intel MB), I installed the same V6 or V7 on 3 machines and registered, with no problem. Still, I keep the rule to run only one instance of Vegas at a time - I don't want to abuse Sony's generosity.

"A call to SoundForge (pre-Sony days)"

Or more precisely "a call to Sonic Foundary (pre-Sony days)."

Or even MORE precisely...

"... a call to Sonic Foundry..."
