What are you talking about exactly?

Unless someone on the forum has experience with these 3rd party Actions Packs, probably your best approach is to ask ActionVFX about this as it is their product after all.

Dexcon, thats the thing, ActionVFX does not sell plugins or software installers for their products, they are a Visual Effects Stock footage provider!..... I use a number of their products, you simply purchase and drop them on the Vegas timeline.

dirk-g wrote on 12/14/2020, 8:44 PM

This is what they were talking about. You see this on a new install of the Vegas software.

It's an 11 GB file on the first one. If it's just footage, I'll pass. I'd rather download ala mode, based on what I'm looking for.

Reyfox wrote on 12/15/2020, 8:29 AM

I have several of their packs. As @Steve_Rhoden said, they supply stock footage and effects like explosions, fireballs, bullet shots, etc.

The name is "ActionVFX".....

Dave-Shoe wrote on 1/1/2021, 5:06 PM

Magix certainly provides instruction on how to integrate these "ActionVFX Action Pack" files into Vegas Pro. As a Vegas Pro newby, my current interest is to properly install them - I will later learn to use them and then decide whether I have a use for them. I'll keep searching the forum and my documents. I do now know I am not alone in my attempt to install them. That is comforting.

Dave-Shoe wrote on 1/1/2021, 5:33 PM

After just a few more minutes of study, I can begin to see how these action packs can be uniquely handy when making videos. Installation instruction from Magix would sure help a newby like me unzip and optimally locate these action packs for future use, speeding Vegas Pro 18 Suite installation (install now, study later). At least I now know what they are. I'll keep looking for more guidance on this topic.

@Dave-Shoe  ... Please see @Steve_Rhoden 's comment above re ActionVFX Action Packs:

ActionVFX does not sell plugins or software installers for their products, they are a Visual Effects Stock footage provider!..... I use a number of their products, you simply purchase and drop them on the Vegas timeline.

Even though VFX is in the name of the product, they are not OFX VFX plugins like those offered by 3rd party companies such as BorisFX, NewBlueFX, HitFilm Ignite Pro and so on. ActionVFX will therefore not be found in Vegas Pro's Video FX window.

From ActionVFX's website, it clearly states:

THE BEST STOCK FOOTAGE FOR VISUAL EFFECTS

It is stock footage. There is no installation needed (like an OFX plugin) because they are media files which are simply clicked or dragged on to Vegas Pro's timeline in the same way that you would click or drag your own camera footage (or any other video or audio media for that matter) on to the timeline.

Both HitFilm and VAAST (and many others like Pond5) have similar stock footage packages that work in the same way. Special FX stock footage like fire, water, particles, explosions etc usually have an alpha background so that the FX can overlay the main image on a lower video track on the timeline. Which alpha setting is applied is selectable in Vegas Pro in the track header (Compositing Mode icon).

Hi Dexcon. I did see that post, but found it unsatisfactory. When a function is kitted into a suite, the suite needs to provide a place for it. Experienced folk don't need to know where the function fits - they already know, but newbies like me start out fully dazzled by every part of the new landscape and language, and depend on guidance by the suite maker to help install the software as we gradually become oriented. As a newby, I am becoming a bungling amateur installation expert at parts of this suite. This is TOO SOON for me. I should simply be loading and using the suite, and gradually developing a baseline competence. I presently think Vegas Pro 18 Suite instructions need to be re-written with the novice in mind. It has taken me an hour or so to understand where the "Action Packs" fit into the bigger scheme, but I still lack a good idea where I might best locate them for future use within the suite. Some simple guidance, mention of a preferred directory, would go a LONG WAY toward speeding installation of the suite. Location of the two "action packs" is a current top priority for me, but I will need hours more to figure out a good place. Magix can answer this uncertainty for me in mere seconds, while simultaneously developing a studio standard (this is where the action packs preferably go).

Okay, let's go back to the beginning when you purchased Vegas Pro 18 Suite. The Suite comes with a lot of Extras as shown under the Extras heading in the Vegas Pro Comparison chart (current version):

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/vegas-pro/product-comparison/#productMenu

With the exception of the ActionVFX package, the other Extras are OFX software programs (VST in the case of the Zynaptic audio program) that plug in to Vegas Pro by running the installation program (typically but not always an executable .exe file). And yes, they will then automatically appear as VFX/VST plugins in Vegas Pro.

But ActionVFX is not a program and so does not plug in to Vegas Pro as much as you might wish it to do so.

After you bought Vegas Pro 18 Suite, you would have been sent an email advising you of the serial number of Vegas Pro 18 along with links to download the program, manual, keyboard commands and a plugin installation guide. Following on from that, the email would have listed serial numbers for all the Extras along with links to access and download those programs - and that would have included the ActionVFX package. If you use a recent version of MS Edge as your browser, the downloads would by default download to the C:\user name\Downloads folder (unless another destination has been selected as the default destination). It would therefore before expected that the ActionVFX package downloaded to the same folder as did the other 3rd party Extras. Perhaps look for it there. Though I do not know, the package might be contained in a zip folder; if so, it would need to be unzipped in order to access the footage.

AcionVFX is not an executable program - it is just video media which you can copy and paste over to any folder on any drive on your computer that you so wish to - its totally your choice. To access it in Vegas Pro, just use the Explorer window to drill down to the folder where it is now held - in exactly the same way that you would use the Explorer window to locate the video/audio media from your camera.

The ActionVFX process is not a Vegas Pro-centric process, it would occur this way with any NLE offering ActionVFX as an extra, and it would occur in the same way if you bought a package directly from ActionVFX.

I didn't view Vegas Pro 18 Suite as containing any "extras". I simply saw a "suite": I saw a set of programs designated for one person's use for a particular purpose. When you rent a "suite" at a hotel, the pool isn't two blocks away.

Bro I feel you. No one realllly wants to help. You merely, like myself, were searching for someone to just say, hey...extract to Documents- create a favorite in your Browser window in Vegas...use them when you feel like it...

They're linked inside of a PDF that you get.

I've dowloaded both Zip files, but cant find an install file. How do I get theses effects in Vegas pro 18.0?

The actionvfx bundle does not get "installed." It is just a bundle of various video clips. Just unzip the files and save them somewhere. For me, I created a folder called Assets and inside of it I have subfolders for Sound Effects, Music and Loops, Titles and Credits, Video Clips, etc.

So, it is just a collection of videos you can use in your projects. If you need smoke or an explosion, find it in your collection and just add the video to your project.
