Installing VMS 8 AFTER VMS 9

I have an image of my HD so its low risk for me to install it, I use it all the time to roll back from stuff I try out, but I would like to know up front if anyone else has installed 8 after 9??

I bought a copy of 8 to get the NewBlue effects, I wonder if its worth the effort to install the whole thing? (I see that the NewBlue has a seperate installer I can download)

I would like to get the Cineform codec as well.

Is there any other items in 8 that are missing from 9?

You can have both installed on your pc at the same time.

I did something similar. If I recall, you need to have V8 installed initially or the Newblue FX don't work. Installing with the lone NB installer won't work. I uninstalled 9, installed 8 & NewBlue FX, then reinstalled 9. The whole process took less than 15 mins,

Thanks Markk, did you loose all your settings for ver 9?

You can download a tool from this website (under free software) to backup your presets.

Cool I'll check it out. Does it save the presets for the render templates?

It is under 'utilities' actually, and as far as I can tell, it only saves plug-in presets, no render templates. It doesn't seem to work on my system, with VMS8. I hope somenone else jumps in to help you further on this.

Just an update, I was able to install 8 after 9, nothing in the 9 settings / folders seem disturbed.

I think the new blue installer would have worked alone, but I didnt get a chance to try it with a new HD image.

Even with 8 installed it seems you can't access the Cineform codec from within the 9 version. (It appears in 8 just fine.) Am I doing something wrong here??

I ended up uninstalling 8 but leaving the newblue effects intact.
