WMV7 (or WMV8 or WMV9) is probably where MS and Sony have their attention. Just checking your reasoning?

Although nothing wrong with the activemovie/video-for-windows era codecs, the mpeg4 v3 is neither MPEG-4 nor the latest version of what MS proposed for MPEG-4 use. M4V3 might suit going to Linux or a specialised set top box, but if not WMV(9), other AVI types are probably where it is at (DiVX ;-), On2's VP6, TechSmiths TSCC (high bit depth CG/screenscrapes),QT6-MP4,Real Helix RV9, Macromedia/WildForm Flix etc, all) probably have the edge.
