Intel i7 640 Dual Core For Vegas 10

Is it better to go with an Intel i7 640 Dual Core processor than a Quad Core processor of similar price? I want to be able to do location 16 track recording with a laptop using two Presonus FireStudios. I will also do some HD 720p video rendering (files coming off a Casio FH25 digital camera). Any modern computer is fast enough for multitrack audio recording. Don't burden your CPU by running nonessential processes.

As far as rendering comparisons between processors, the Mainconcept encoding tests on Tomshardware and the Rendertest 2010 thread by John Cline on the Vegas Pro Video forum are two good places to start.
