Intense, flashy movie trailers

Hi everybody,

My name is Shelby McIntyre from Tampa, Fl. this is my 1st post. I have been using Movie Studio and Platinum for awhile. I just got serious about editing after editing a trailer for our independent co. and creating a few photo montages for friends. You can see approx. what level I am at if you go to www.shelbymcintyre.tvheaven.com and click on the editing page. all the clips are linked to zippyvideos.com. anyway, I would like to learn how to make really cool, intense, horror movie type trailers, similar to Silent Hill, An American Haunting, etc. If anybody has any suggestions as to which plug-ins to use, video or audio, or any sound effects cds, or any cool techniques or tuorials. Please let me know.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,
Shelby

Sorry,

Let me clarify, I am trying to get better and make more exciting trailers, and I was using those trailers as examples, looking for different effects and transition. Looking for actual ideas, suggestions, etc. from more experienced editors, not wise-crack remarks.

Thanks

Check out the new effects listed in the posts
NewBlue, things like active camera to give your titles that shake effect, use of the various blurs and color passes often fit into what your looking for.
Be sure to check out VASST's web site for links to many plug ins,
Are you using Vegas 6 now or still platinum, just be sure to check compatiblity with what version you have.
Many actually most have trials so you can see what works.
check out Pixelan as well.

There is no plugin that will do what you are asking. That's like asking for a "Make Movie" or a "Free Money" button on a keyboard. You know? It takes time, good source material, and experimenting to do what you ask. You could, as suggested, try and recreate a trailer you like on TV. Scary trailers have been cut way before anyone even knew what a plugin was.

Some thoughts to get you started: insert a velocity envelope to ramp speed over time, use flash transition, and try to vary the pace with slow and fast editing. That's seems to be how many of these horror spots are cut.

Edit: digitaljuice.com has a gigantic sound effects collection for $249 that has lot's of cool sounds if you are looking for sound effects. They also have some cool production music too.

Good Luck!

Shelby, From the looks of your trailer "Homeland Security" you're already off to a great start. This was a very original short with good use of home made titling effects...(light rays, etc).

Keep experimenting with what Vegas can do right out of the box and you'll be amazed at the things you can do. As mentioned above, VAAST has some neat plugins and veg files that can add fuel to your imagination...but the real magic comes from what you create on your own.
