Intensity Pro

Just installed a new Intensity Pro to use with Vegas 8. Couple of points:

1. the tech at BMD said the card works with v. 8.0a and b, but not c or d.

2. When I told him that the first test I did--capturing some VHS video--left some nasty no-genlock artifacts at the bottom of the frame, he allowed that no, there is no way to sync a signal when capturing from a deck. Camcorders are ok.

When I told him I bought the card to capture footage from Beta SP tape for a professional production, he confirmed the Intensity Pro did not have a genlock feature, which would make my buying this card a complete waste of time and money.

Then, just to make it interesting, he said he'd send me a jpeg showing how to connect the Y-output from the Intensity to an SP deck's reference video input, and said this might work.

My plan was to take my computer, loaded with the Intensity and a big external disk to the dubber's with the beta decks, does anyone have any reassurances or warnings, or experience with using this card this way?

Thanks for any help.

1. There is no 8.0c or 8.0d

2. Those artifacts at the bottom of the frame is head switching noise and it happens on most VHS, BetaMax and 3/4" analog devices.

As far as capturing footage from BetaSP, the Intensity should work fine for this purpose. I do it all the time. It doesn't require Genlock.

The Intensity will not genlock to an external sync reference when playing out, but I would think that the dubber would have a frame synchronizer which should deal with it.

John:

Fascinating, about the version confusion. I was wondering why I only had 8.0a

A relief that the card should work as I need. This was going to be the third expensive breakdown here today. More than I could afford.

Ok, but I don't think i need the Intensity to play out this time. Long's I get this stuff loaded into my disk.

thank you for the info.
