interlaced

I can't seem to get vegas to render anything other than interlaced, but I require progressive. Hopefully, I'm just missing a button somewhere. I've set my project to use progressive. I set the render (different times trying avi, mov, wmv, mpeg2) as progressive. My source footage is progressive... yet my render still ends up as interlaced! It's driving me nutz. Can anyone offer a bit of advice?

lico - are you expecting that because you set a Project's Preferences to Progressive, that all the rendering SHOULD be Progressive?

Well, I just did a whole bunch of experiments using my standard Interlace Prefs and select Progressive and I get Progressive. BUT, when I set my Project Preferences to interlace and then attempt to render - New Track or render As - I need to select "Progressive" when I render. I don't automatically get a Progressive render - I NEED to select Progressive in the "Custom" second Tab > Video. However, once I've "used" this template once, it WILL be selected the next time I use it. I must remember to select PAL-DV Interlace before I go any further - huh!

So, apart from something going "crook" fo0r you, I've needed to select and use Progressive at least once for it to be there again. Now in Project Prefs there is the a tiny "check-box" allowing us to "Start all projects with these settings" - have you used this?

So, it would appear, the render option is the last one used - and this overrides the Project Prefs.

Anyway, I can render to "New Track" and "Render as . . " converting Interlace to Progressive.

I guess the design logic for this is to allow us to "use" the last used render - even though we HAVE our prefs set for P or I? Seems feasible?

The main thing is to set the Deinterlace Method (to be found in Projekt Properties) to either "Blend Fields" or "Interpolate Fields". If the Deinterlace Method is set to "None" there will be no deinterlacing even if you choose progressive in the render dialog. Recommended for most cases of regular video is "Blend Fields".

Project Properties "Progressive", "Lower Field" and "Upper Field" are meant to match the footage. It also adjusts the previewing properties - e.g. to preview interlaced video on a progressive monitor. But it is not meant for render settings.
